Description

A flavor-packed, easy-to-make Asian-style BBQ chuck roast that’s perfect for busy weeknights. Tender, sticky, and customizable to your tastes!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 pound chuck roast
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup hoisin sauce
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds (for garnishing)
  • 3 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnishing)

Instructions

  1. Place the chuck roast into the slow cooker or a large oven-safe pot.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, rice vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and chili flakes. Stir well to combine.
  3. Pour the sauce mixture over the chuck roast, ensuring it is well immersed.
  4. If using a slow cooker, set to low heat for 6-8 hours. If using the oven, preheat to 325°F (160°C) and bake for 3-4 hours.
  5. Once cooked, remove the meat and cover it with foil to keep warm.
  6. Pour the remaining sauce into a saucepan and bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  7. Add the cornstarch slurry to the sauce, stirring until thickened, about 3-5 minutes.
  8. Pour the thickened sauce over the roast and garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions before serving.
