- 4 large sweet onions
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Trim the top and root end of each onion, removing the outer skin.
- Make deep slits from top to bottom on each onion, ensuring they remain whole.
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Add minced garlic to the melted butter, stirring until fragrant.
- Stir in the broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, salt, black pepper, and optional red pepper flakes.
- Place the onions in a deep baking dish and pour the buttery mixture over them.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for about 1 hour and 5 minutes.
- Remove the foil for the last 10 minutes to brown the onions.
- Sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.
