Description

Ingredients

  • 4 large sweet onions
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cups beef or vegetable broth
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Trim the top and root end of each onion, removing the outer skin.
  2. Make deep slits from top to bottom on each onion, ensuring they remain whole.
  3. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  4. Add minced garlic to the melted butter, stirring until fragrant.
  5. Stir in the broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, salt, black pepper, and optional red pepper flakes.
  6. Place the onions in a deep baking dish and pour the buttery mixture over them.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for about 1 hour and 5 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil for the last 10 minutes to brown the onions.
  9. Sprinkle with fresh parsley before serving.
