Description

A cozy and creamy caramelized onion and Gruyere dip, baked to perfection and perfect for parties or family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (optional)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 cups Gruyere cheese, shredded and divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a heavy skillet over medium-low heat. Add sliced onions and a couple pinches of salt. Cook slowly, stirring frequently for 30–40 minutes, until deeply caramelized and golden brown.
  2. Add minced garlic and thyme to the caramelized onions and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes until fragrant.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise until smooth.
  4. Fold in caramelized onions and 1 cup of shredded Gruyere cheese, season with black pepper, and mix well.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, spreading evenly. Top with the remaining 1/2 cup of Gruyere.
  6. Bake in a preheated 375°F (190°C) oven for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbling at the edges.
  7. Serve warm with toasted baguette slices, crackers, or fresh veggies.

Notes

This dip can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat at 350°F (175°C) for 10-15 minutes until warmed through.
