Description

This incredibly flavorful Chinese BBQ Pork Char Siu comes together in about 45 minutes and is cooked all in one pan, making it a perfect weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 pound pork shoulder, cut into strips

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, five-spice powder, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Mix well.
  2. Add the pork strips to the marinade, ensuring they are fully coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Line a baking sheet with foil and place a rack on top. Arrange the marinated pork on the rack and roast for about 30 minutes.
  5. Baste the pork with marinade every 10 minutes. After 30 minutes, increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C) and cook for an additional 15-20 minutes until caramelized.
  6. Allow the pork to rest for a few minutes before slicing it into thin strips.

Notes

Feel free to use pork tenderloin for a leaner option or brown sugar instead of honey for a different sweetness.
