- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead it gently for about 30 seconds until it comes together.
- Shape it into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cut a cross in the top.
- Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped. Let it cool before slicing.
Notes
If you don’t have buttermilk, add a tablespoon of vinegar to regular milk and let it sit for about 10 minutes to create a quick substitute.
