Description

This delicious Irish Soda Bread comes together in about 30 minutes and bakes up golden brown for a quick and easy side dish that your family will love!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead it gently for about 30 seconds until it comes together.
  5. Shape it into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Cut a cross in the top.
  6. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped. Let it cool before slicing.

Notes

If you don’t have buttermilk, add a tablespoon of vinegar to regular milk and let it sit for about 10 minutes to create a quick substitute.
