Description

This irresistible Karaage (Japanese Fried Chicken) comes together in about 30 minutes and is perfect for a quick and easy dinner that your whole family will love!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g chicken thigh
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sake
  • 1 tablespoon mirin
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, grated
  • 1 cup potato starch or cornstarch
  • Oil for frying
  • Lemon wedges
  • Green onions, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, sake, mirin, grated ginger, and garlic. Add the chicken pieces and toss to coat. Let it marinate for 15-30 minutes.
  2. In a deep frying pan, heat about 1 inch of oil over medium heat.
  3. Take the marinated chicken pieces out of the marinade and dredge them in potato starch or cornstarch, shaking off any excess.
  4. Carefully lay the coated chicken in the hot oil in batches and fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  5. Use a slotted spoon to remove the chicken and let it drain on paper towels.
  6. Serve hot with lemon wedges and a sprinkle of chopped green onions.

Notes

Feel free to customize with your favorite dipping sauces or add spices to the marinade.
