Description

Delightful Lebanese Meat Pies that are quick and easy to prepare, perfect for family meals and customizable to suit your taste.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough: In a bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Drizzle in the olive oil and gradually add the water while stirring until the dough comes together. Knead for about 5 minutes until elastic, then cover and let rest for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Filling: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Cook the onion until translucent (about 5 minutes), then add garlic and cook for another minute. Add ground beef, cooking until browned (7-10 minutes), then stir in spices and optional ingredients.
  3. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Roll Out the Dough: Roll out the rested dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into circles.
  5. Fill and Seal: Place a spoonful of filling on each circle, fold over and seal the edges.
  6. Bake the Pies: Arrange on a baking sheet, brush tops with olive oil, and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden.
  7. Serve Warm: Allow to cool slightly before serving warm.
