Description

A quick and easy one-pot meal perfect for busy family nights, featuring delicious dumplings filled with ground beef and served in yogurt sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 cups yogurt
  • 1 cup water or broth
  • 1 clove garlic, minced or sliced (for topping)
  • Adha (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add water, mixing until smooth. Knead for about 5 minutes until you have a soft dough. Wrap in plastic wrap and let rest for 15 minutes.
  2. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Sauté onions until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic for the last minute. Add ground beef, cumin, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Cook until browned, about 8-10 minutes.
  3. Roll out the rested dough on a floured surface, cut into 4-5 inch circles. Place a tablespoon of filling in the center of each, fold over, and crimp edges to seal.
  4. In a large pot, combine yogurt, water (or broth), and salt. Heat until simmering. Carefully add dumplings and cook until they float, about 10-15 minutes.
  5. Sauté additional minced garlic in oil until golden, then pour over the dumplings. Sprinkle with adha if using.

Notes

Serve with warm pita bread or a fresh salad. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
