- 1 cup sourdough discard
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup sugar (brown sugar recommended)
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- Optional add-ins: 1 cup of fruit, chocolate chips, or nuts
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the sourdough discard and milk until just combined to form a shaggy dough.
- Add any optional add-ins, folding them in gently.
- Form the dough into a 1-inch thick circle and cut it into wedges or rounds.
- Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
