Description

A quick and easy scone recipe using sourdough discard for a delightful breakfast treat.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar (brown sugar recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Optional add-ins: 1 cup of fruit, chocolate chips, or nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the sourdough discard and milk until just combined to form a shaggy dough.
  5. Add any optional add-ins, folding them in gently.
  6. Form the dough into a 1-inch thick circle and cut it into wedges or rounds.
  7. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
