Instructions
- Prep the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Cream the sugar and butter: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add the eggs: Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then pour in the vanilla extract.
- Combine dry ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Alternate additions: Gradually add the dry mixture to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the flour mix.
- Divide the batter: Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
- Bake the cakes: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool down: Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
- Decorate and enjoy: Once cooled, decorate with icing or fondant and add any edible decorations you like.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can substitute some sugar with brown sugar. This cake can be frozen before decoration for up to 3 months.
