Description
Delicious and crispy chalupas inspired by Taco Bell, perfect for busy weeknight dinners.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 cup shredded cheese
- Sour cream (optional)
- Salsa (optional)
Instructions
- Make the dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the water, stirring until the dough comes together (about 1-2 minutes). Turn it out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic, which should take about 5 minutes.
- Shape the chalupas: Divide your dough into small balls, about the size of a golf ball. Roll each ball into a flat circle about 1/4-inch thick.
- Fry the chalupas: Heat a generous amount of oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry each dough circle until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
- Cook the beef: In a skillet, cook your ground beef over medium heat until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Drain any excess grease, add your taco seasoning, and a splash of water. Stir for about 5 minutes, allowing it to simmer until everything’s incorporated and fragrant.
- Assemble: Fill each chalupa with seasoned beef, and pile on the toppings of shredded lettuce, cheese, and optional sour cream and salsa.
- Serve: Enjoy your chalupas fresh and hot!
Notes
